# Why does roscd go wrong?

The issue is with your ROS\_PACKAGE\_PATH. roscd brings you to the first workspace on the path. So they should be the other way around on you package path.

I highly discourage from manually fiddling with the ROS\_PACKAGE\_PATH variable (if you've done that or plan on doing that). Also note that you don't need to have multiple source statements for workspaces in your .bashrc. With catkin, the last setting wins.

* clean your workspace (i.e. remove build, devel and logs folder, if they exist; if you've built with catkin-tools, you can use the catkin clean command)
* clean the bashrc (i.e. remove all source commands that source a ROS workspace)
* start a new terminal (without any ROS environment sourced)
* manually source /opt/ros/melodic/setup.bash
* build your workspace again and source the workspaces setup.bash

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://campus-rover.gitbook.io/lab-notebook/fiiva/why-does-roscd-go-to-the-wrong-place.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
